Auditions for Apprentices

 

Kittiwake has a number of openings for apprentice positions within the company. It’s an exciting opportunity for serious, aspiring dancers to work alongside full-time professional dancers. The opportunity comes with paid performances, professional development, touring and more. We are seeking dancers with training in ballet/contemporary ballet. Auditions are open to all genders. 

 

Date: Sunday, May 28 @ 1:00 PM

Location: Arts & Culture Centre Dancespace (3rd floor)

 

*Dancers must be at least 16 years old by September 30, 2023*

 

What to Expect at Your Kittiwake Audition:

  • Check-in with Artistic Director, Martin Vallée
  • There is no need to prepare a routine in advance

What you should you bring?

  • Appropriate ballet wear, wear hair off the face
  • Appropriate footwear; including pointe shoes, if applicable
  • A water bottle

Remember – the most successful auditions are the ones you enjoy!

Auditions for Narnia

 

Kittiwake brings its newest story ballet to the St. John’s Arts and Culture stage on April 1, 2023. Jointly choreographed by Martin Vallée and Hannah Drover, Narnia is based on C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia. This is an audition call for the roles of Naiads, Dryads, Snowflakes and more, taking place on January 8, 2023.

 

Dancers must have ballet or contemporary training. Auditions are open to all genders and are on a first-come-first-serve basis.

 

Date: Sunday, January 8 @ 12:00-2:00 PM

Location: Arts & Culture Centre Dancespace (3rd floor)

 

*Dancers must be 14 years old by September 30, 2023*

Auditions for Company Members

 

Kittiwake has a number of openings for apprentices within the company. We are holding auditions to fill those spaces. It’s an exciting opportunity for serious, aspiring dancers to work alongside full-time professional dancers to gain experience with paid performances, professional development, touring and more.

 

We are seeking dancers with training in ballet/contemporary ballet. Auditions are open to all genders. 

 

Date: Sunday, May 29 @ 1:00-2:30 PM

Location: Arts & Culture Centre Dancespace (3rd floor)

 

*Dancers must be at least 16 years old by December 31, 2022*

The Nutcracker 2021 Auditions

Pre-registration for auditions for Kittiwake Dance Theatre’s 35th presentation of The Nutcracker is open for interested dancers ages 9 and up, of all genders. Due to ongoing public health restrictions, dancers will audition in smaller groups than in recent years.

 

Audition times will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis, by age group. Pre-registration closes at midnight on August 23 NST.

 

Those selected for an audition will be emailed their assigned time and are required to etransfer the $10 audition fee before August 27.

 

Audition schedule is:

  • Friday, August 27 5 pm to 6 pm for dancers ages 14+
  • Saturday, August 28 10 am boys only, all ages
  • August 28 11 am to 5 pm, dancers under age 14 (precise times to be assigned)
  • Sunday, August 29 10 am to 4 pm, dancers under age 14 (precise times to be assigned)

*Please note that this casting call is for the St. John’s shows only, scheduled for December 17-19. Auditions will be held in October for casting in other communities.

Auditions for Peter Pan in the Park

Updated June 20, 2021:

Kittiwake has had a strong response to the call for auditions. All time slots for pre-registration are full.  If you choose to complete the pre-registration form, it will be for a waitlist position only and we will notify you only if a space becomes available.

 

 

On October 1, 2021, Kittiwake will premiere a new story ballet, Peter Pan in the Park, with original choreography by Martin Vallée.

We require a number of community dancers for the production and therefore are holding auditions on June 27 for interested dancers ages 9 and up. Due to public health restrictions and to respect physical distancing, dancers will audition in small groups.

 

With a limited number of time slots, we will conduct pre-registration and make audition times available on a first-come, first-serve basis, by age group. Pre-registration is open until midnight on June 24 NST. On June 25, Kittiwake will email audition times to those who are selected. Those selected for an audition will be emailed their assigned time and are required to etransfer the $10 audition fee before June 27.

Auditions for Alice and More Wonderlands 2020

Auditions for the Alice and More Wonderlands tour are being held in two locations; Stephenville and Corner Brook. Kittiwake is bringing this ballet production to the west coast of our province and we are very excited to involve local performers from these communities.

Auditions are open to all genders, for a number of roles, with choreography by Artistic Director, Martin Vallée.

The Schedule:

March 12, Stephenville – Nomad Stages, 76 Main Street, Stephenville, NL 

4:00 – 5:00 PM Ages 9-12; no dance experience required

5:00 – 6:00 PM Ages 13+; dancers should have some previous ballet training

6:00 – 7:30 PM Rehearsal for those who are offered roles in the production

March 13, Corner Brook – Arts and Culture Centre, 11 University Drive, Corner Brook, NL 

4:00 – 5:00 PM Ages 9-12; no dance experience required

5:00 – 6:00 PM Ages 13+; dancers should have some previous ballet training

6:00 – 7:30 PM Rehearsal for those who are offered roles in the production

Audition Fee: $10 payable by cash or cheque on audition day. 

Audition Results will be available following each session. Those accepted will be asked to return for a first rehearsal. They will also be expected to complete a Role Acceptance form, including a Media Release, and to pay the $40 costume rental fee. Rehearsal schedules will be available by March 19.

Auditions for the 2020 Apprentice Program

Auditions for Kittiwake’s 2020 Apprentice Program will be held on Sunday, January 12 at 5 PM at Dancespace, on the 3rd floor of the St. John’s Arts and Culture.  The audition is open to serious dancers between the ages of 13 and 14 years (by December 31, 2019).  The program is a series of free, monthly dance classes offered to supplement aspiring dancers regular studio training.

Auditions for the Nutracker 2018

        Auditions for The Nutcracker 2018 are being held in three locations.   This is the first year in Kittiwake’s history that we will tour this beloved ballet and we are very excited to involve performers from across our province.

        Open to all genders, for roles of mice, clowns, reindeer, snowflakes, parents, etc. in this year’s Nutcracker, with choreography by Artistic Director, Martin Vallée.  All levels of dance training and experience welcome.
