Kittiwake is transforming. As we prepare to burst out of our chrysalis, we present three world premieres by choreographers who are all in transitional moments in their artistic lives. Jean Grand-Maître has retired from his role as Director at the Alberta Ballet and is embarking on life as an independent artist. Yukichi Hattori has moved across the country to take up the Artistic Directorship for Kittiwake, leaving behind his work as a dancer and dance studio director. RBC-Kittiwake Emerging Choreographer in Residence Robert Azevedo is a young artist embarking on their career as a choreographer. All three now offer us work inspired by their personal metamorphoses.
In his first program curated for Kittiwake, Yukichi Hattori sets the course for the company’s next steps. An evening full of highly physical contemporary ballet, this evening will keep you breathless and on the edge of your seat.
“Unbecoming” (working title) by Robert Azevedo
“Tumult” by Jean Grand-Maître
“Parched” by Yukichi Hattori
