Aug 20-Aug 31, 2018
Kittiwake Dance Theatre is thrilled to be offering a two-week Summer Dance Intensive taking place August 20th-31st! We are welcoming dancers age 9 and up (as of Sept 2018) who have strong dance training, preferably in ballet or contemporary ballet, to continue their training through this innovative program.
We are pleased to bring in guest faculty from Montreal; Janie Richard and Edgar Zendejas!
Janie Richard – No stranger to the Newfoundland dance scene, Janie received a professional training at the École Supérieure de Ballet Contemporain in Montreal. She is an independent performer, choreographer and teacher who has worked with Avant Chamber Ballet in Dallas, Cas Public in Montreal, the Syracuse City Ballet, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal, ProArteDanza Dance Company in Toronto, and as a principal dancer with Ballet Ouest de Montréal. From 2010 to 2013, she was a soloist with Atlantic Ballet Theatre in Moncton and has performed in Kittiwake Dance Theatre’s The Nutcracker. Janie has judged dance competitions since 2013, and regularly teaches with studios in Quebec, New Brunswick and Newfoundland.
Edgar Zendejas – Mexican born Edgar Zendejas, fueled by a passion for dance that began in his native country, was drawn to the United States where he received a bursary to study at the United States International University in San Diego. Zendejas began his career performing in Chicago and Montreal and quickly became a celebrated choreographer across North America. Most notably he won the Hubbard Street 2 National Choreographic Competition in 2010 and the Outstanding Choreographer Award from the Youth America Grand Prix in 2012. In 2006 Zendejas co-founded endenza; a company that operates as an open space focused on research, creation and dissemination, that is currently exploring new areas of choreographic collaboration with the contemporary circus.
