Kittiwake Dance Theatre is thrilled to once again offer a two-week Summer Dance Intensive taking place August 19 to 30, 2019!  We are welcoming dancers age 9 and up who have strong dance training, preferably in ballet or contemporary ballet, to continue their training through this innovative program.

Returning for a second year is well-sought-after guest teacher Edgar Zendejas, a contemporary dancer from Montreal.

Edgar Zendejas

Mexican born Edgar Zendejas, fueled by a passion for dance that began in his native country, was drawn to the United States where he received a bursary to study at the United States International University in San Diego.  He began his career performing in Chicago and Montreal and quickly became a celebrated choreographer across North America. Notable awards include the Hubbard Street 2 National Choreographic Competition in 2010 and the Outstanding Choreographer Award from the Youth America Grand Prix in 2012.  In 2006 Zendejas co-founded ezdenza; a company that operates as an open space focused on research, creation, and dissemination.  Part of their 2019-20 season, The Lorca Project, marks the first creation where ezdanza will introduce contemporary dance as the main base while interacting with acrobatic and contemporary circus forms.

Collaborative Music Partnership Program

Once again we are partnering with Memorial University’s School of Music on an expanded collaborative music training program for pianists and percussionists – dancers can look forward to live music accompaniment in most classes! Pianist Craig Wingrove of The National Ballet School and percussionist Ed Squires, formerly with The School of Toronto Dance Theatre and currently with InStudio at the National Ballet of Canada, will work with our musicians and dancers.

Academic Classes

In addition to dance classes, there will be classes covering topics such as wellness for dancers, music appreciation, and acting!
