Art in the time of COVID – Alone Together

Join us online on December  7 at 7 PM for Kittiwake’s event in ArtsNL’s Art in the Time of COVID series. This fall, our Artistic Director has been moving through a creative process for a new dance work titled Alone Together, which is a response to the sense of isolation that many people have felt as a result of pandemic-related lockdowns around the globe.

We engaged a number of community partners to contribute written reflections about their experiences of how quarantine, social distancing and lockdowns have affected them personally and how they have felt during this period of isolation. These include local artists, residents of St. Patrick’s Mercy Home, international students from Memorial University’s School of Music who as yet have been unable to travel here to study, and Shallaway Youth Choir.  Their reflections serve as inspiration for the creation of the piece. Choices For Youth has also provided information about how the pandemic has impacted the young people it serves, which will also help inform the work.

On December 7, ArtsNL will air a video recording that takes you behind the scenes for a glimpse at the development process to date.  The dance work will be further developed and refined, with a planned premiere of the final work in 2021 to a live audience. Kittiwake acknowledges, with gratitude, funding from ArtsNL and sponsorship from TD Bank to support the creation and presentation of Alone Together, and is pleased to once again partner with DanceNL for another exciting project.  For access details, check back here or follow our Facebook page.
